Australia beat England by 9 wickets
Australia
England
Just an one-sided contest in the end as Australia manage a stunning 9 wicket win over England to enter the finals of the Champions Trophy 2009. It was a challenging target under lights but Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting (111*) and opener Shane Watson (136*) chased that down magnificently in 41.5 overs. Both the batsmen added a record unbeaten 252 runs for the second wicket to get their side home pretty convincingly in the end. Ricky Ponting reached a big milestone on his way here completing 12,000 runs in ODI cricket, he will be quite proud of that achievement. Hang on for the presentation...
Shane Watson is adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round show in the game. An unbeaten 136 along with bowling figures of 2/35.
Defending Champions Australia have booked a place in the finals and will be awaiting the winner of the other semi-finals to be played on Saturday. New Zealand meet Pakistan in that other mouth-watering semis contest at Johannesburg. Do join us for that game. Good Bye for now! Cheers!
