So! Congratulations to Australia! Commensurations to New Zealand. What a performance by Australia. They restricted New Zealand to 200 and then chased down the target in proficient style. New Zealand struck early dismissing Paine and Ponting cheaply but Watson and White hung in there and added 128 for the third wicket. Hussey's wicket to Mills gave memories of Australia's run-chase against Pakistan in the league matches, but the Queensland pair of Watson and Hopes saw Australia through with an unbeaten 50-run stand. Watson scored his second successive century of the tournament and stayed unbeaten on 105 with White giving him good support scoring 62. For New Zealand, only Mills(3/27) and Bond(1/34) were the wicket-takers while the rest of the bowling looked flat. Australia romp home with 6 wickets to spare and defend their Champions Trophy title.

But then, after that, they pulled off stunning wins over Sri Lanka and England and continued their form into the semi-finals beating Pakistan as well.
