New Zealand will meet Australia in what will be a Trans-Tasman final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 on Monday. A superb half century by Grant Elliott has helped the Kiwis to a 5-wicket victory over Pakistan in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy. Chasing 234, all the Kiwi batsmen chipped in with runs but one of them needed to play a big innings. Aaron Redmond played a good knock, in his first game of the series, and Ross Taylor regained some of his lost form. But it was a stylish, well-paced innings by Grant Elliott that took New Zealand home. Daniel Vettori played the epitome of a captain's knock under pressure. With 10 overs to go, the Kiwis needed more than 6 runs an over but what worked in their favour was the fact that they had wickets in hand and that they had the Batting Power Play. Both eventually worked in their favour. Elliott scored a superb unbeaten 75 and stayed at the crease till the end. Daniel Vettori is named Man of the Match for his all-round performance of 43-3 with the ball and 41 with the bat. All the attention now shifts to the final where familiar-foes Australia will take on New Zealand. Both teams have won the ICC Champions Trophy once and come Monday night, one of them will become the first team to lift the trophy on two occassions. Will it be the reigning champions or will New Zealand crash the party, like they have done so many times in this series? For that, we'll have to wait and see whats in store for us on Monday.
