What a match! After electing to bat first, New Zealand started off well but lost their way in the middle losing thier last 8 wickets for 73 runs. At the end of the first innings, Pakistan were very much pleased with their bowling effort needing 212 for a series win.
Pakistan too started off well, with the openers adding 47. But then, after that, skipper Daniel Vettori brought his team right back into the game with a timely breakthrough and Pakistan lost 9 wickets for 54 runs! But, there was more to come!
What seemed to be a matter of time before Pakistan were bowled out, turned to be a nightmare for the Kiwis as the last-wicket pair
of Aamer and Ajmal added 103 runs for the final wicket and nearly snatched the Cup out of Vettori's hands. But, the Kiwis held their nerve and the combination of Oram and Mills finally got rid of Ajmal. But what a performance by both the teams.
Plenty of records were broken and the way both the teams came back into the match, it made the match into a super-thriller.
MOHAMMAD AAMER IS NAMED MAN-OF-THE-MATCH FOR HIS 2/41 AND HIS UNBEATEN 73 IN THE END.
BRENDON McCULLUM IS NAMED MAN-OF-THE-SERIES.
Phew! The Kiwis have come back from behind in a tremendous fashion to win the series 2-1. After the first match, Pakistan were considered favourites to pocket the series, but New Zealand fought back not only to level the series, but to win it as well.
The first two matches were pretty one-sided with both winning one. But the best was reserved for the last and it turned out to be an exciting final. Both the teams deserve credit for the way they played today.
Right Then! Both the teams now get ready for the shortest version of the game - T20I. They play a 2-match T20I series starting on 12th November, 2009 which is at Dubai. That starts at 1400 GMT.
