England beat South Africa by 1 run (D/L method)

After easing off a bit, the rain has now got quite heavier. The Umpires have hence decided to bring the covers on. The players are walking off the field.

As far as the equation goes, South Africa need another 76 runs to win from 42 balls. But here it will be a case of the D/L method, according to which 128 is the par score. South Africa are 127/3 which leaves them 2 runs short of victory if the game doesn't get underway from here on. Stay tuned for the latest updates..

That's it. The word is out from the middle - the match has been called off. England have won the match by D/L method. South Africa will consider themselves pretty unlucky as they just the missed the game by a couple of runs. The official result of the match is that England have won by 1 run (D/L method).

Chasing that big total of 203, South Africa got off to a brilliant start with skipper Smith (41) and Bosman (58) both going after the bowlers. But England came back a little towards the end of the 10th over picking up three wickets in quick succession. That slowed down the proceedings a bit while the rain came in to interrupt. The batsmen in the middle had the D/L method sheet in their hand and by the end of the 12th over, South Africa looked safe but the 13th over changed the context of the game. Unlucky South Africa, did not go for those runs as the rain eased off a bit but at the end of the over it got heavier and the match had to be called off. The D/L method par score was 128 and South Africa ended with 127/3 in 13 overs. Eoin Morgan gets the Man of the Match award for his outstanding innings of 85* off just 45 balls.

It was a high scoring encounter and could have gone tight towards the end had the weather permitted. Anyways, England have started their big tour on a winning note and they will look to continue in the same manner. Both the sides will meet once again for a T20 match on the 15th at Centurion. Do join us for all the action from that game. Till then, it's Good Bye from all of us here! Cheers!
