England have defeated hosts South Africa by 22 runs to win the match and secure their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009. With that, they have shattered South Africa's hopes of qualifying for the next round of the tournament. Despite a fighting 141 by skipper Graeme Smith, South Africa have again been knocked out in the early stages of a tournament, after going in as favourites to win it. Chasing 324 was never going to be easy and, unlike England, South Africa were never allowed to retain momentum via a big partnership. James Anderson took charge of the bowling attack with amazing figures of 42-3. But a special word of praise must go out to the England fielders who were brilliant and charged up right from the time the second innings got underway. At the end of the day, it was a combined team-effort by England to outdo the home-side. Shah, Collingwood and Morgan contributed with the bat, Anderson and Swann were tight with the ball and the fielding was as good as you will ever see. Owais Shah is named Man of the Match for his knock of 98 runs, which set the base for a huge England total. That's all we have for today folks.
