England beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets
England
Sri Lanka
With that, England win their opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009, defeating Sri Lanka, by six wickets. They began the match beautifully by dismissing the Lankan top-order and killing the heart of their opponents' batting line-up. Their bowlers bowled one wide too many but did well to restrict the Lankans to 212. After losing their openers, the England middle-order made sure they applied themselves at the crease and played each ball according to its merits. Owais Shah (44) and Paul Collingwood (46) were unfortunate to miss out on half centuries but Eoin Morgan got there (62) and rightfully scored the winning runs. Paul Collingwood is named Man of the Match for his economical spell of 24 runs in 8 overs and a brisk 41 with the bat at a crucial time. Thats all we have for you today folks. Do join us for the first of two matches tomorrow. Australia will take on West Indies at 0730 GMT. We'll see you when the actions begins. Goodbye.

England are 138-3 after 32 overs. Shah and Morgan are playing a sensible knock out in the middle. England have wickets in hand and they need a very achievable 4.16 runs an over from here onwards to win this match. Sri Lanka need some quick wickets if they have to force their way back into this match. With 18 overs to go, it's still any team's game but one just gets the feeling that England are in the driver's seat at this point of time.
