Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh by 69 runs

What a match ! Tawanda Mupariwa struck first ball getting Tamim to edge one to Vermeulen at first slip. Naeem looked as if he was in a hurry to catch a train. Blasted Chigumbura to a boundary and then had a wild swing and lost his off stump for 4. Ashraful got otf the mark with a beautiful cover-drive, played a couple of lovely wrist glances, but just when he was looking set to play a good innings, he got a brainwave and threw his wicket away, getting a top edge to Masakadza at third man off the bowling of Mupariwa for 9. Shakib came in with a huge responsibility on his shoulders, played a few strokes and he too got sucked in by the pressure getting a top edge of Mupariwa to Masakadza for 17. Raqibul and Rahim tried to stage a fightback by adding 68 for the fifth wicket, but Rahim also got under pressure and was out at long-off, caught by Coventry of Price for a useful 33. Mahmudullah followed 6 overs later palying an identical shot off Price, this time taken by Masakadza. Raqibul played a lone hand, scoring a magnificient 78, before he was cleaned up by Masakadza, but not before he added a fighting 42 for the seventh wicket with Mehrab Hossain jnr. Mahbubul Alam and Mehrab Hossain jnr frustrated the hosts more by adding 65 for the 8th wicket, before Mehrab was dismissed by Utseya, caught by Vermeulen at cover for 23. Price then removed Haque quickly for 3, cleaning him up. Mupariwa finally ended the Bangladeshi resistance getting Alam caught off a top edge by Vermeulen at point for a fantastic 57, leading Zimbabwe to a 69-run victory. Just the three good innings for Bangladesh, 78 from Raqibul, 57 from Alam and 33 from Rahim. For the hosts, the pick of the bowlers was Mupariwa, picking up 3/32 off 7.2 overs.

Hang on for the presentation........................

Shakib Al Hasan - We did not bowl well enough, especially the spinners. It was a tough day for us and hopefully we will come back in the next game. If we had a great start, we could have won the game.

Prosper Utseya - Nothing special. It is just that the guys came to the party. They realised their roles and responsibilities and we won. We need to improve our batting. I dont think 320 is enough. I think 350 is what we should get. We are losing wickets in the first two overs too many and we need to stop that.

MAN - OF - THE - MATCH - ELTON CHIGUMBURA

CHIGUMBURA - Ya, it was a good innings....I thought the guys up front too did a good job. Nothing much...Hoping to level the series on Sunday.

So ! Zimbabwe stay alive in this series, trailing Bangladesh 1-2, with 2 matches to go. They did manage to carry on the momentum from the previous match into this game and managed to win. However, they still need to improve in the bowling department, as, even after reducing Bangladesh to 39/4, they allowed Bangladesh to reach 254, courtesy some poor bowling and laxed fielding. However, they have a lot of positives to look for going into the next match. They would be hoping to square the series on Sunday and take it to the series decider on Tuesday. Bangladesh, on the other hand, would be looking to shut the series on Sunday itself. Whatever happens, neither of the teams are going to give an inch ! Join us for the 4th ODI on Sunday, 16th of August, 2009 ! Till then, Good Bye ! Take Care ! ADIOS !
